History

The Virginia Episcopal Scouting Association (a.k.a. "VA ESA") was formed by Rev. Richard Zalesak and David Anderson in 2005 under the supervision of The Rt. Rev. Peter James Lee, 12th Bishop of the Diocese of Virginia.

The first official Virginia Episcopal Scouting Association God & Me class was held on October 8, 2005 at the Heart of Virginia Cub Adventure Camp in Maidens, VA. Another was held on May 19, 2006 at Christ Church Episcopal in Short Pump, VA. The class has been offered each winter since at Cub Adventure Camp.

The first official Virginia Episcopal Scouting Association God & Family class was held on December 3, 2005 at the Heart of Virginia Cub Adventure Camp in Maidens, VA and has been been conducted each winter since, first in December (2005-2008) and later in January (2010+)

God & Church was conducted in October & November 2006 at Christ Church Episcopal in Short Pump, VA and has been offered in the Fall of 2007 & 2008. Due to declining enrollment, however, the decision was made to offer every other year starting in 2010.

God & Life was conducted in October & November 2006 at Christ Church Episcopal in Short Pump, VA and has been offered in the Fall of 2007 & 2008. Due to declining enrollment the Fall 2008 course was canceled and the decision was made to offer every other year starting in 2009.

Duty to God Promotion was first taught in the Summer of 2006 to each session of Resident Camp at the Heart of Virginia Cub Adventure Camp in Maidens, VA and has been repeated there each Summer since. It has also been presented numerous times at Roundtables and Pow-Wow throughout the Heart of Virginia Council.
